1931年生于意大利米兰，从博拉艺术学院毕业之后从事插画工作。她对学龄前儿童的语言及沟通方式特别感兴趣，这主要是因为在养育两个孩子的过程中，发现市面上的童书多半要成人的协助及诠释才能让孩子了解。这激发了她的创作灵感，她决定为孩子创作出能够轻易看懂的书。艾拉的每一个画面都要经过深思，并且要和实物反复比对，最后呈现出清晰的图像。这样的图像更能帮助孩子了解大自然复杂的演变过程。 艾拉曾得过许多国际性的奖项，包括两次意大利波洛尼亚国际儿童图画书美术设计推荐奖。主要作品有《鸡和蛋》、《这是谁?的尾巴？》、《红气球》、《苹果与蝴蝶》、《树之歌》等。她的作品在欧洲及美洲广获好评。
